Bio:
I received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University followed by a M.S. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I then transitioned from the engineering world to the neuroscience world in the lab of Dr. Leslie Ungerleider at the NIMH. I earned a PhD in 2010 in the lab of Dr. Steven Yantis at Johns Hopkins University and then went on to do postdoctoral research with Dr. Marlene Behrmann at Carnegie Mellon University. I joined UWM as an Assistant Professor of Psychology in August, 2013. I am currently (since August, 2019) an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Medical College of Wisconsin & Marquette University. I also have a secondary appointment as an Assistant Professor in the MCW Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. And, I'm a member of both the MCW Neuroscience Research Center and the Clinical & Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin.
Research Interests:
My primary interest is in the neurobiology of attention and how our moment-to-moment behavioral goals are implemented in neural mechanisms. To this end, we study both the sources and targets of attentional control in vision and audition as well as the underlying psychological principles that lead to object perception.
Personal Interests:
I’m a fairly big baseball fan and spend far too much time cheering on the Brewers during the summer months. Otherwise, you’ll likely find me on a local rail-trail or mountain bike single-track; or possibly a nearby ski slope. Spending time with my wife & dog along with some good food & beer, followed by long walks outdoors, are also very important to me!
